SMU Cross Country Team Off to a Good Start

The men and women's Cross Country team had their first meet of the season this past Saturday hosted by Acadia University. The weather conditions were perfect allowing for some personal best times by both the men and women. In the 5km race, second year Environmental Studies student, Meghan Clark was the first women's Huskie to cross the finish line. Clark placed 18th and finished in a time of 19:57.41.Clark was followed by teammates Monique Muise and Brianna Cregan. Ellen Chappell of Dalhousie University was first overall in a time of 18:08.17.

On the men's side, third year Arts student John Kuto placed 5th overall in the 8km race in a time of 25.58.19. Rookie Jonathan Peverill had a strong first race wearing maroon and white placing 27th and proving that he will be a key member of the Huskies team. Fifth year student Angus MacDonald was closely behind Peverill crossing the line in 33rd position. MacDonald's time and position is his best season opener to date. Lee Wessilius of St.F.X was first overall in a time of 25:30.75
Next up, the men and women's team will be travelling to University of New Brunswick on Oct. 20th for the second race of the season.
