AUS Cross Country Championships

(Fredericton, NB) The Saint Mary's men and women's cross country team wrapped up their season this past weekend at the AUS Championships held at Odell Park in Fredericton, New Brunswick. With course conditions being muddy in large sections, the Huskies showed they were not afraid to get a little dirty.

In the women's race, fourth year athlete Meghan Clark showed why she has been the Huskies top female finisher all season, finishing strongly in 19th place with a time of 24:57 over the 6km course. Also showing her strength in the championship race was second year athlete Grace Barnhart, who was the second Huskie to cross the line in a time of 25:32. In her final cross country race wearing the maroon and white, fifth year athlete Monique Muise was the third Huskie to cross the line in a time of 26:03. Following closely behind her was Rylee Mezzarobba, finishing in a time of 26:19, smashing her previous personal best of 27:59. Rounding out the Huskies squad was Lauren Ross, Krystel Frenette, and Sadie Petrie. The women's team placed 5th overall out of the 8 competing AUS universities. Well done ladies!

On the men's side, second year athlete Jonathan Peverill also showed why he has been the Huskies top male finisher all season, finishing strongly in 18th place with a personal best time of 34:54 over the 10km course. Second year athlete Ian MacDonald saved his best race of the season for the championships, finishing in an outstanding personal best time of 36:14, crushing his previous personal best of 39:13 and was also the second Huskie to cross the line. Fourth year athlete Jagmeet Brar, also donning the maroon and white in his final cross country race, finished as the third Huskie across the line in a personal best time of 38:24, and following close behind him was Cameron Taylor, also finishing in a personal best time of 38:56. Rounding out the squad was Chris MacKinnon. The men's team placed 6th out of the 8 competing AUS universities. Well done men!
