Andew Peverill Claims AUS Rookie of the Year

The 2017 Subway AUS Cross Country Championships were hosted by Acadia University at Hennigar's Farm in Wolfville, N.S. First year athlete Andrew Peverill claimed AUS Rookie of the Year and leads the Huskies to a 5th place finish where only 12 points separated the Huskies from 3rd place.  

It was a perfect day for the 2017 Subway AUS Championships held Saturday October 28th at Hennigar's Farm in Wolfville, N.S.  The women's race started at 12:00 and included two 4km loops over grassy and hilly fields. Dalhousie's Savanna Jordon finished first in a time of 30:05 followed by teammates Michelle Reddy in 2nd and Carol-Ann MacDonald from the University of Moncton in 3rd. For the Huskies, Solana Purdy was the first Huskie across the finish line in 37th position. Teammate and training partner Elizabeth Lorimer was close behind in 38th position.

 

Race Results

 

On the men's side, Angus Rawling from St.F.X was victorious over the 10km race finishing first in a time 31:43. Close behind Rawling was teammate Alex Neuffer in 31:59. Cal Dewolfe from Dalhousie rounded out the top three finishers for third position in a time of 32:04. For the Huskies, first year athlete Andrew Peverill showed his strength and ability to compete with veteran AUS runners by placing 4th in a time of 32:14. Andrew was later awarded the AUS Rookie of the Year for being the top place first year athlete at the competition. Teammate and brother Jonathan Peverill was the second Huskie across the finish line in a time of 34:58 claiming 16th position. Rookie Owen Bachelor had a phenomenal race finishing in 25th position in a time of 35:40. The men's team was 12 points out of 3rd place and finished in 5th position behind Dalhousie, St.F.X, UPEI and UNB. Both Andew and Jonathan will extend their competitive season and will race in two weeks time at the U-Sport Championships hosted by the University of Victoria on November 12th.
