Rory McGarvey honoured with AUS Student -Athlete Community Service Award, First Team All-Star selection

Saint Mary's Huskies cross country athlete Rory McGarvey was honoured as the 2023 AUS Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete Community Service Award winner, as well as being named a First Team All-Star after finishing seventh overall at Saturday's AUS Cross Country Championship.

McGarvey is a senior environmental studies student in his third year of eligibility from Belleville, Ont.

His athletic successes include being named an AUS second team all-star at last season's conference championship, as well as being named this season's captain of the Huskies track and field team.

In the classroom he boasts a 4.23 cumulative GPA. He is a two-time U SPORTS academic all-Canadian on pace to repeat for a third time this season.

His community work includes having served as a volunteer for the 2023 CIBC Run for the Cure, as well as serving on campus as vice president of the Saint Mary's University Geography Society and volunteering with the university's Environmental Society.

HUSKIES MEN FINISH FOURTH OVERALL AT 2023 AUS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

The Saint Mary's Huskies finished fourth with 121 points, led by Rory McGarvey (Belleville, ON) who finished seventh and was named a First Team All-Star. 

Teagan Scott finished 15th, Joe Stewart finished 24th, Tadiwanashe Whingwiri finished 34th, Alex Labrecque finished 41st, Matthew Mundy finished 43rd and Elijah Ford finished 44th to round out the Huskies finishers.

HUSKIES WOMEN FINISH EIGHT OVERALL AT 2023 AUS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

The Saint Mary's Huskies Cross Country team finished in eighth place in the 2023 AUS Cross Country Championship.

The Huskies were paced by two-sport athlete Mackenzie Beggs - also a forward on the Women's Hockey team - who finished 41st overall with a time of 36:28. Jacqueline Moore finished 42nd, Gael Cameron finished 44th, Ashley Brady finished 50th, Alexandra Campbell finished 51st and Angelique Gittens finished 53rd to round out the Huskies finishers.
