Peverill, Bell named Huskies Athletes of the Week: Oct. 24-30

Men's cross country runner Andrew Peverill and women's volleyball outside hitter Olivia Bell have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week of Oct. 24-30.

Andrew Peverill, a fifth year cross country athlete from Lower Sackville, N.S., is the Huskies male athlete of the week for the week of Oct. 24-30.

Peverill raced to his third consecutive AUS Cross Country Championship on Saturday in Stratford, P.E.I. Peverill's time of 24:37 was more than 18 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Peverill was crowned AUS Champion and Male Athlete of the Year for the third consecutive time, becoming the first AUS male athlete to accomplish that feat since Olympian Paul McCloy did with the Memorial Sea-Hawks in 1984-1986.

Next up, Peverill will compete at the U SPORTS Cross Country Championships, being co-hosted by Saint Mary's and Dalhousie at The Links at Brunello on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Olivia Bell, a fourth year outside hitter from Lahave, N.S., is the Huskies female athlete of the week for the week of Oct. 24-30.

Bell's outstanding play helped power the Huskies to a 2-0 season-opening weekend. On Friday night, Bell led the Huskies with 15 kills, 24 digs and three service aces in a 3-1 win over the defending champion Dalhousie Tigers and was named Subway Player of the Game. On Saturday night, Bell once again led the Huskies in kills (13) and digs (15) and added one block and one assist in the Huskies 3-0 win over the Moncton Aigles Bleues. Through the first two games of the regular season, the two-time AUS All-Star is second in the AUS in kills (28), points (32) and third in digs (39) and hitting percentage (33%).
