Helvig, McMillan named Huskies Athletes of the Week: Nov. 21-27

Men's hockey goaltender Jeremy Helvig and women's basketball guard Alaina McMillan have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week of Nov. 21-27.

Jeremy Helvig, a first year goaltender out of Kingston, ON, is the Huskies male athlete of the week for the week of Nov. 21-27.

In Saturday's 2-1 shootout win over the U SPORTS #1 ranked UNB REDS, Helvig stopped 50 shots, leading the Huskies to the victory. 

In five games played this season (four starts), Helvig has a 3-1-0 record, 3.09 goals against average and .910 save percentage.

The win helped improve the Huskies to 9-7 on the campaign.

Alaina McMillan, a fourth year guard from Brantford, ON is the Huskies female athlete of the week for the week of Nov. 21-27.

Over a pair of games this week, McMillan averaged 17.5 points, including shooting a perfect 6/6 from the free-throw line, and added 5.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game.

In Wednesday's 79-72 win over the U SPORTS #5 ranked Acadia Axewomen, McMillan scored 19 points, and added a team-high five assists along with five rebounds and two steals.

In Friday's 79-74 loss to the UPEI Panthers, McMillan led the Huskies with 16 points, six assists and three steals, and added two rebounds.

A two-time AUS All-Star, McMillan leads the Huskies in assists (3.8 per game), three pointers made (22) and ranks second on the team in scoring (15.8 points per game), free-throws made (24) and field goals made (48).
