Vandenberg & Duggan named Huskies Athletes of the Week: Jan. 26-Feb. 1, 2026

Men's hockey goaltender Marcus Vandenberg and women's hockey forward Jillian Duggan have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week ending February 1, 2026.

Marcus Vandenberg, a first year goaltender from Dorchester, ON, is the Huskies male athlete of the week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1, 2026.

In a pair of Huskies wins over the top two teams in the AUS standings, Vandenberg stopped 69 of 74 shots faced for a .932 save percentage and 2.50 goals against average.

In Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Acadia Axemen, Vandenberg stopped 36/38 shots faced for the win.

In Friday's 5-3 win over the Moncton Aigles Bleus, Vandenberg stopped 33/36 shots for the win.

On the season, Vandenberg has started 17 games with a 9-6-0-2 record, and ranks fifth in the conference with a .906 save percentage.

The Huskies winning week improves their record to 14-9-1-2 on the season, good for fourth place in the AUS. Saint Mary's will be back on the road this weekend, visiting the UNB REDS on Friday, Feb. 6 and UPEI Panthers on Saturday, Feb. 7, with both games dropping the puck at 7 p.m.

Jillian Duggan, a fifth year forward from Halifax, N.S., is the Huskies female athlete of the week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1, 2026.

In Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Dalhousie Tigers, Duggan scored an empty net goal, adding a +1 plus/minus rating and two shots on goal.

In Saturday's 2-1 win over the Dalhousie Tigers, Duggan scored the game-tying powerplay goal, adding a +1 plus/minus rating and two shots on goal, helping the Huskies win the annual Lobster Trap Challenge Cup!

On the season, Duggan ranks second on the Huskies in goals with seven, and has added four assists for 11 points on the season. For her Huskies career, Duggan has appeared in 123 regular sason games, scoring 49 points (29 goals and 20 assists).

The Huskies winning week improves their record to 12-9-0-3 on the season, good for fifth place in the AUS standings. Saint Mary's will be back on home ice on Friday, Feb. 6, hosting the Moncton Aigles Bleues at 7 p.m. at the Dauphinee Centre. GET TICKETS
