Kara MacLean / Women's Hockey / Antigonish, N.S. / 5th year / Honours in Psychology
Kara MacLean, a fifth year forward from Antigonish, N.S., is the Huskies female athlete of the week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week of Feb. 2-8, 2026.
In a pair of games this weekend, MacLean scored two goals and an assist, adding four shots on goal and a +3 plus/minus rating, and helping lead the Huskies to four crucial points as they clinched a playoff spot.
In Friday's 1-0 shootout win over the Moncton Aigles Bleues, MacLean registered a shot on goal.
In Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the UPEI Panthers, MacLean contributed to all three Huskies goals, scoring the first two and assisting on Ashley Penney's tying goal to send the game to overtime. While the Huskies lost in a shootout, the single point was enough to clinch their spot in the 2026 AUS Women's Hockey Playoffs.
On the season, MacLean is tied for second on the Huskies in goals with seven, and ranks third on the team in assists (11) and points (18).
Saturday's game was also MacLean's senior night, as she celebrated the final regular season home game of her Huskies career. MacLean ranks top 10 all-time in program scoring, with 84 points (32 goals, 52 assists) in 123 regular season games, and has added seven points (three goals, four assists) in 18 playoff games.
MacLean and the Huskies will finish the regular season on the road visiting the UNB REDS on Friday, and St. Thomas Tommies on Saturday, before heading into the AUS playoff quarterfinal series.
