Four Huskies - Butler, Edwards, Hashw, Jack - invited to CFL Combines

Four Saint Mary's Huskies football players - defensive backs Ryan Butler and Kallon Edwards, offensive lineman Omar Hashw and receiver Joshua Jack - have been selected to attend upcoming 2026 CFL Combines. Ryan Butler, Kallon Edwards and Omar Hashw have accepted invitations to the CFL Invitational Combine, Presented by New Era, taking place March 6 at the University of Waterloo. The top prospects identified at the event will advance to Edmonton for the CFL Combine presented by Anytime Fitness from March 27-29. Joshua Jack has accepted an invitation directly to the CFL National Combine that will be held in Edmonton from March 27-29.

Huskies recognize school-record 138 Academic All-Canadians

The Saint Mary's University Huskies Department of Athletics celebrated the academic success of their student-athletes on Tuesday morning with the annual Huskies Academic All-Canadian breakfast ceremony. A new Saint Mary's record of 138 student-athletes were awarded the standing of U SPORTS Academic All Canadian. U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian distinction is one of the highest recognitions a university varsity athlete may receive. To earn U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian distinction, a varsity student-athlete must be enrolled full-time and achieve an average of 80% or higher in the academic year.

For the first time since 2010, the Saint Mary’s Huskies are Loney Bowl champions, winning the 2025 Bell Atlantic University Sport Loney Bowl football championship game with a 46-11 win over the STFX X-Men on Saturday afternoon at Huskies Stadium. The U SPORTS #5 ranked Huskies now advance to the Uteck Bowl National Semifinal for the first time since 2010, where they will host the #4 ranked Montréal Carabins on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. at Huskies Stadium.

The 2025 Atlantic University Sport football awards and all-stars were announced on Thursday, with several members of the Saint Mary's Huskies being honoured among the league's best. Head Coach Steve Sumarah receives the Larry Uteck Trophy as AUS Coach of the Year, Cameron Brown wins the Student-Athlete Community Service Award, and Cailob Allaby is named Outstanding Lineman of the Year, as well as 15 Huskies being selected as AUS All-Stars.

The Saint Mary’s Huskies will host the 2025 Loney Bowl, as they defeated the Acadia Axemen 37-0 in the Atlantic University Sport football semifinal on Saturday afternoon at Huskies Stadium. With the win, the Huskies advance to the Loney Bowl championship game, where they’ll host the STFX X-Men next Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at Huskies Stadium, with a trip to the U SPORTS semifinal Uteck Bowl on the line. Tickets will go on sale Monday at 10 a.m. at SMUHuskies.ca/Tickets.

The Saint Mary’s defence posted another dominant performance, forcing three turnovers, with captain Isaiah Okoli recording 8.5 tackles on his senior night, leading the Huskies to a commanding 26-10 win over the STFX X-Men on Friday night at Huskies Stadium. With the win, the U SPORTS #6 ranked Huskies improve to 7-1 on the season, locking up first place and home field throughout the AUS Playoffs. The Huskies will host the fourth-seeded Acadia Axemen (2-5) in the AUS Semifinal on Saturday, November 1, at 2 p.m. at Huskies Stadium.
