Huskies finish of regular season with win over Panthers

(HALIFAX, N.S.)--The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the visiting UPEI Panthers 113-82 Saturday night in AUS men's basketball action from the Homburg Centre.

 

SMU led 29-16 after 10 minutes and 66-38 at the half.

 

The second half was closer in scoring, with SMU taking the third quarter 25-20 for the 91-58 cushion after 30 minutes.

 

UPEI battled back in the final 10 minutes, winning the quarter 24-22 but Saint Mary's held on for the 113-82 victory.

 

Miki Sedlarevic (Vesenice, Slovenia) and Ellis Ffrench (Wolfville, N.S.) paced UPEI and all scorers with 22 points apiece while Matt Brar (Abbotsford, B.C.) added 12 points.

 

UPEI drops to 14-5 (38 points) and snags the #2 seed for next weekend's AUS men's basketball championship.

 

Saint Mary's improves to 13-7 (34 points) and will be the #3 seed in next weekend's tournament.

 

Marquis Clayton (Halifax, N.S.) led the Huskies with 20 points on the night, while Jeremy McAvoy (Dartmouth, N.S.) added 18, Brian Rouse (Mississauga, Ont.) 17, Kadeem Thompson (Toronto, Ont.) 14 and Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, Ont.) had 13 points.

 

Rounding out the Huskies scoring were Aaron Fisher (Savannah, Georgia) with eight points, Kadeem Scott (Toronto, Ont.) seven, while Osman Barrie (Ottawa, Ont.) and Ryan Augustine (Toronto, Ont.) had six points apiece.

 

Ottawa's Achuil Lual added four points and Brent Martindale (Kingston, Ont) had seven rebounds for the Huskies.
