Rouse Scores 22 Points, Huskies Down X-Men 82-69

(Halifax, NS) The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Saint Francis Xavier X-Men 82-69 in AUS men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Scotiabank Centre as part of the basketball portion of the mainland Nova Scotia Varsity Showdown event.

Subway player of the game Brian Rouse (Mississauga, ON) led the Huskies with 22 points.  Rouse is currently leading the Huskies in scoring with a 16.8 ppg average good for 5th in league scoring.   Other leaders for the Huskies were Theon Reefer (Toronto, ON)  17 points,  Osman Barrie (Ottawa, ON) with a double double with 13 points and 15 rebounds to pace the Huskies' offence. Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, ON) rounded things off with 13 points and three steals to anchor Saint Mary's on defense. Ryan Augustine also added 9 points and 4 rebounds for the Huskies.  

St. FX jumped out to an early advantage by leading 19-13 after one quarter. Saint Mary's got back into it with by taking the second quarter 22-13 to lead it 35-32 at the half. Saint Mary's continued to lead by winning the third quarter 19-15 to take a 54-47 lead after three quarters. The Huskies kept it up by taking the fourth quarter 28-22 to seal the win.  

Cameron Walker (Dallas, TX) lead all scorers with 23 points and Julius Antoine (Woodbridge, ON) had 16 points to pace the X-Men offence. Walker added a block and Cameron Crieghtney (Toronto, ON) swiped three steals to anchor the St. FX defence.

Both teams are back in action this upcoming Friday and Saturday in home doubleheaders. Saint Mary's hosts t the UNB Varsity Reds at 8:00 pm (Friday/Saturday) , while the X-Men face the UPEI Panthers at 8 p.m. on Friday and 4 pm on Saturday.
