Huskies grab 77-58 win over visiting Capers

(Halifax, NS)—The Saint Mary's Huskies used a game-high 13 points from Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, ON) Saturday night and improved to .500 with a 77-58 win over the CBU Capers in AUS men's basketball action.

Alleyne added seven rebounds and Saint Mary's improves to 8-8 and sits in fifth-place in with 22 points, trailing 10-7 Acadia by two.

Meshack Lufile (Burlington, ON) paced CBU with a double-double on 16 points and 10 rebounds while Toronto native Tevin Bartley also scored 16.

Cedric Kasongo (Welland, ON) had nine Caper points while teammate Kenny Jean-Louis (Montreal, QC) added seven and pulled in 12 rebounds.

Saint Mary's took a 21-10 opening quarter lead and extended the score 20-15 in the second frame, ending the half up 41-25.

A 25-12 CBU third quarter saw the score 53-50 SMU after thirty minutes.

Outscoring the Capers 24-8 in the final frame, the Huskies held on for the 77-58 win.

Toronto native Theon Reefer added 12 points and five steals for SMU while teammates Ryan Augustine (Toronto, ON) and Marquis Clayton (Halifax, NS) each had 10 points.

Achuil Laul (Ottawa, ON) had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench for Saint Mary's.

Brian Rouse (Mississauga, ON) and Toronto's Kadeem Thompson each had nine points for the Huskies.

Osman Barrie (Ottawa, ON) finished with four points for Saint Mary's.

SMU hosts first-place 12-5 Dalhousie Wednesday night while CBU travels to 3-13 STFX February 20th.

Both games are set for 8 pm.
