Huskies split weekend with Seahawks

(St. John's, NF) The Huskies bounced back from Saturday's loss, winning a close game Sunday (88-82) that came right down to the final possession. The Sea-Hawks threatened the lead late in the 4th, but ultimately fell short in the end.

The return of star guard Marquis Clayton, who dropped 19 points after missing last night's game, was a big factor in SMU's victory. His presence on the floor allowed the Huskies to get into rhythm, and freed up space for Theon Reefer to go to work. He added 10 rebounds to 28 points for a double-double in the win.

On the Sea-Hawks side, they could never really pull away when they had the chance in this one. Despite great games from Daniel Gordon (5-7 3pt, 19 points) and Vasilije Curcic (29 points) they were never able to put the Huskies away when they had opportunities.

The Sea-Hawks remain in first place for right now, but they are just two points up on second place Saint FX. The Huskies, with the win, were able to move all the way to fourth place leapfrogging Acadia. Memorial is off to New Brunswick next weekend for a two game set against UNB, while SMU will play Acadia on Friday before heading home to take on Dalhousie Sunday.
