Huskies drop season opener to Sea-Hawks 83-73

The Memorial Sea-Hawks were able to hold onto an early lead and beat the Saint Mary's Huskies by a final score of 83-73. Feeding off the crowd's energy at the MUN Fieldhouse, the Sea-Hawks were able to create an early lead and ended the first quarter up 26-17 on the scoreboard.

However, the Huskies made a mini comeback in 3rd frame, bringing the score within one possession on multiple occasions during the quarter. The Huskies started to free themselves up offensively during the second half in an effort to bite into the Sea-Hawks lead, they were able to do so by topping the home team 25-19  in the 3rd quarter. Despite the Huskies best efforts, the Sea-Hawks would pull away in the final frame, thanks to the impressive play of Nicholas Tuff and Flynn Boardman-Raffet.

Nicholas Tuff (23 points) led the way for the Sea-Hawks in scoring and made a few clutch buckets during the latter part of the game. Emmanuel Ring (20 points) was active all over the floor, scoring at will while adding 12 rebounds and 6 assists, both of were team-highs. Boris Ristanovic (14 Points) was a big presence in the middle for the home team, getting his way in the paint, recording 10 rebounds.

Shae Linton-Brown (19 points) and Dontae Mitchell (17 points) provided the majority of the offensive output for the visiting Huskies, creating problems by penetrating the Se-Hawks defence. Jayrell Diggs (11 points) and Jonas Maerz (10 points) were the other Huskies that finished with 10+ points on the night.

Nick Tuff was awarded the AUS Subway Player of the Game for his efforts in the Sea-Hawks first win of the season.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday, with tip-off scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Atlantic. The Huskies will return to Halifax for their home opener as they host crosstown rivals the Dalhousie Tigers on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. Atlantic. GET TICKETS
