Huskies win 9-2 at home over UdeM

(Halifax, NS) At the Halifax Forum, Steven Beyers (Orangeville, ON) netted a hat trick as the Saint Mary's Huskies beat the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus 9-2 Saturday night in AUS hockey.

Two of Beyers' goals were power play markers, part of a 3 for 4 night on the power play to lead the Huskies to the win.  Beyers' performance in the contest earned him Subway player of the game honours.

Bradley Greene (Tilting, NFLD) got the scoring started at 3:45 of the first period for Saint Mary's.  Fourth year, defenseman Michael D'Orazio (Richmond Hills, ON) made it 2-0 on the power play at 5:11.  UdeM's. Jean Francois Plante (Sherbrooke, QC) answered back for the with a power play goal of his own at 10:27 to cut the lead to 2-1.  It was Beyers again that restored the two goal lead on the power play at 18:20 to make the score 3-1 after the first period.

Defenseman, Jamie Doornbosch (Richmond Hill, ON) got things started in the second period with a goal at 1:16 to make the score 4-1 for the Huskies.  Second year forward, Francis Menard (Embrun, ON) immediately increased the lead further at 1:48 to take a 5-1 lead.  Captain, Jeff Marchand (Hammonds Plains, NS) scored at 7:45 to increase the lead to  6-1.  Steven Beyers was on the board again, scoring his second of the night to give the Huskies a 7-1 lead after 40 minutes.

To start the scoring in the 3rd,  Rookie, Michael Curtis (Georgetown, ON) scored for the Huskies at 2:50 to make the score 8-1.   UdeM's Plante got his second of the game on the power play at 4:46 to cut into the Huskies lead at 8-2.  It was Beyers again for a hat trick on the power play at 9:27 to add to their lead near the end of the game.

Saint Mary's  outshot the Aigles Bleus 47-33.  Huskies' goaltender Cole Cheveldave (Calgary, AB) made 31 saves for the win.  Brandon Thibeau (Riverview, NB) and Adrien Lemay (Moncton, NB) combined to stop 38 shots in goal for Moncton.

The Huskies next see action on November 26th against the Saint Francis Xavier X-Men at 7:00 pm at the Forum. The Aigles Bleus also  travel Charlottetown on the 26th to face the Panthers.
