Huskies grab 7-1 win over Tommies

(Halifax, NS)  Stephen Gillard (St. John's, NL) had 2 goals, in the  2nd and 3rd periods, as the Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the St. Thomas Tommies 7-1 Saturday night at the Halifax Forum.

Gillard's efforts earned him Subway player of the game honours.

The Huskies wasted little time getting on the board first when Stephen MacAualey (Cole Harbour, NS) tallied at 1:26 to give Saint Mary's a 1-0 lead. The Huskies doubled their lead when Ben Duffy (Lower Sackville, NS) scored at 12:04 to make it 2-0 after the first period.

Saint Mary's added to their lead, in the 2nd when Jamie Doornbosch (Richmond Hill, ON) potted a marker at 4:51 to make the score 3-0. The Huskies got back on the board again when Gillard scored his goal of the night at 18:54 to give the Huskies a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes.

The Huskies kept the offence in the third when Duffy got his second goal at 12:41 to make it 5-0. The Tommies got on the scoreboard when JC Campagna (Dublin, OH) scored at 14:15 to cut the lead to 5-1. The Huskies immediately answered back when Jeff Marchand (Hammonds Plains, NS), who also added an assist, scored at 14:53 to put Saint Mary's up 6-1. At 17:09, Stephen Gillard netted his second goal to round out the scoring.

The Huskies outshot the Tommies 32-27. Anthony Peters (Blyth, ON) made 26 saves to get the win for the Huskies and Philippe Trudeau (Blainville, QC) stopped 25 shots in net for the Tommies.

The Huskies see action next Wednesday (TomStrong Night) against the Dalhousie Tigers at 7:00 pm at the Forum . The Tommies hit the ice next this Friday at home against the Universite De Moncton Aigles Bleus at 7:00 pm.
