Huskies grab game one in UdeM Series

(Halifax, NS)  Saint Mary's got the win in game one with exceptional goaltending by 4th year  goalie Anthony Peters (Blyth, ON) who recorded the shutout for the Huskies.  

Stephen Johnston(Guelph, ON) scored both goals for Saint Mary's in their 2-0 win over The Universite De Moncton Aigles Bleus at the Halifax Forum.  

Peters' big performance earned him Subway player of the game honours.

Saint Mary's got on the board very quickly when Johnston scored at 0:54, with assists going to Steven Shipley (Ilderton, ON) and Steven Beyers (Orangeville, ON), to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead after the first period.

In the second, the Huskies got on the board again when, Johnston scored his second of the game at 1:23, with Shipley and Beyers getting both assists again, to make the score 2-0 at the end of two.  

Both teams were unable to put a goal on the board in the third period. For the Aigles Bleus, Pier-Antoine Dion (St-Christophe d'Arthabaska, QC), Jean-Francois Plante (Sherbrooke, QC), and Allain Saulnier (Cap-Pele, NB) tied for the team lead with five shots on goal.

The Aigles Bleus outshot the Huskies 34-28 in the contest.

Peters made 34 saves on the way to the shutout and the win in goal for Saint Mary's and Brandon Thibeau (Riverview, NB) stopped 26 shots for the Aigles Bleus.

The two teams will play the second game of the series on Thursday at 7:00 pm in Moncton. If a third game is necessary, it is scheduled for Saturday at the Forum at 7:00 pm.
