Four point night for Beyers, Huskies top Tommies 6-1

(Halifax, NS) The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the St. Thomas Tommies 6-1 Friday night at the Halifax Forum in AUS men's hockey action.

The Huskies got things started when Francis Menard (Embrun, ON) converted in the slot after several chances at 13:33 on the powerplay to make it 1-0 after the first period.

In the second, Saint Mary's extended their lead when Calder Brooks (Emerald Place, SK) scored on a delayed penalty at 3:49 to make the score 2-0. The Huskies kept it going when Kyle Pereira (Brampton, ON) tallied from a slapshot from the top of the circle at 14:36 to further the lead to 3-0. Saint Mary's kept the momentum up, when Mitchell Maynard (Cole Harbour, NS) potted a marker in close off a rebound at 18:37 to make it 4-0 after 40 minutes.

St. Thomas got on the board in the third, when JC Campagna (Dublin, OH) scored from in close at 2:58 to narrow the lead to 4-1. The Huskies responded when Subway player of the game Steven Beyers (Orangeville, ON) scored at 7:42 to regain the four goal lead at 5-1. Saint Mary's added extra insurance when Ben Duffy (Lower Sackville, NS) tallied off a rebound to bring the game to its final score of 6-1.

The Huskies outshot the Tommies 35-24. Cole Cheveldave (Calgary, AB) got 23 saves to get the win in net for the Huskies. Tyson Teichmann (Belleville, ON) stopped 29 shots for the Tommies.

Both teams are right back at it tomorrow night at 7:00 pm. The Huskies host the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus and the Tommies are on the road against the Acadia Axemen.
