Gillard Scores Winner as Huskies Top Aigles Bleus 4-1

(Halifax, NS)  The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus 4-1 in AUS men's hockey action Friday night at the Halifax Forum. The game was played before a crowd of 725.

Saint Mary's got it going early when Anthony Repaci (Toronto, ON) scored on a partial break at 2:04 to make it 1-0 after the first period. In the second period, Moncton countered when Robbie Graham (Richibuctou, NB) potted a shorthanded marker from in close at 14:29 to tie things up at 1-1 after two periods. In the third, the Huskies got their lead back when Subway player of the game Stephen Gillard (St. John's, NL) tallied off a slapshot from the circle at 4:42 on a five on three powerplay to make it 2-1. Saint Mary's kept it going when Taylor Burke (Halifax, NS) scored from the slot at 14:50 to increase the lead to 3-1. The Huskies added insurance when Stephen MacAulay (Cole Harbour, NS) potted an empty netter at 19:58 to bring the game to its final score of 4-1.

The Huskies outshot the Aigles Bleues 33-13. Cole Cheveldave (Calgary, AB) made 12 saves to get the win for the Huskies. Adrien Lemay (Moncton, NB) stopped 29 shots in goal for the Aigles Bleus.

Both teams are right back to action tomorrow. The Huskies host the St. Thomas Tommies at 7:00 pm and the Aigles Bleus visit the Acadia Axemen at 7.
