Huskies win 4-2 over Aigles Bleus

(Halifax, NS) The Saint Mary's University Huskies picked up a 4-2 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus on Wednesday night, at the Halifax Forum in Halifax, NS.

The Huskies moved to 14-13-1 on the season and sit fourth in the AUS with 29-points.

The Aigles Bleus fell to a 10-16-1 record. Their 21-points has them in the final playoff spot in the AUS by two-points.

Eric Brassard (St Hubert, PQ) made 19 saves for the Huskies and boosted his record to 8-5 in his first AUS season.

Anthony Repaci (Toronto, ON) (10, 11) scored two goals for the Huskies, while Michael Curtis (Georgetown, ON) (10) and Hunter Garlent (Thorol,d ON) (15) netted one a piece.

Garlent added an assist and his two-point night gave him 41-points on the season. He now sits alone in second in AUS scoring.

Allain Saulnier (Cap-Pelé, NB) (5) and Marc-Anthony Therrien (Nicolet, QC) (3) scored for the Aigles Bleus. Jean-François Plante (Sherbrooke, QC) picked up an assist, he and Saulnier each have 39-points on the season and are tied for third in AUS scoring.

Brandon Thibeau (Riverview, NB) made 29 saves for the Aigles Bleus as his record fell to 8-13.

Repaci opened the scoring just 3:00 into the game. Repaci fed Bronson Beaton (Springhill, NS) as the Huskies broke out of their zone.  Beaton carried across the Aigles Bleus line and dropped for Garlent who sent it to Repaci cutting through the inside of the left circle.  The puck ended up in Repaci's feet and he spun around to find the puck and fire a five-hole shot from the top of the crease.

Saulnier tied it up on the power play 8:44 into the first. Plante held the puck in at the right point and made a great pass to Saulnier all alone at the left slot hash marks.  Saulnier made a move to his backhand and slipped it five-hole.

Curtis made it 2-1 Huskies 3:49 into the second. Garlent picked up the puck with speed up the right wing.  He worked in one-on-one and tried to make an awesome spin move into the slot.  He was tripped up on the move and his shot ended up going just wide. With a delayed penalty called, Austyn Hardie (Montreal, QC) tapped the puck to Aaron Berisha (Mississauga, ON) who worked towards the slot from the left half wall and made a slick feed back to Curtis.  Walking into the high slot, Curtis rifled a wrist shot just inside the post blocker side.

Garlent gave the Huskies a 3-1 lead at the 10:45 mark of the second. Stephen Gillard (St John's, NL) poked the puck off an Aigles Bleus stick to Mark Trickett (Baddeck, NS) who chipped the puck of the glass from just inside the Huskies blue line.  Garlent picked it up as he crossed the Aigles Bleus blue line.  He walked in and sniped bar down glove side from the left slot hash marks.

Repaci's second of the night came just 36 seconds later. Curtis made a great effort to hold the line at the left point.  He moved to the top of the circle and made a backdoor feed to Repaci who buried it.

Therrien made it 4-2 with a power play goal with 5:42 left in the second. Samuel Roussy (Paspébiac, QC) went D-to-D to Victor Beaulac (Saint-Hyacinthe, QC) in the middle of the ice inside the Huskies blue line.  Beaulac left the puck for Roussy on a switch and Roussy fired a shot on goal.  Therrien battled in front and after a couple whacks was able to send it in.

The Aigles Bleus were two for seven on the power play, while the Huskies were zero for four.

Shots were 33-21 for the Huskies.
