Huskies / Axemen participate in Red Tape Men's Hockey game

The Saint Mary's Huskies were very proud to host the Acadia Axemen in their first ever Red Tape Game dedicated to indigenous culture and inclusion in hockey.The Red Tape movement encourages athletes to use red tape to show their support for Whycocomagh hockey player Logan Prosper and to end racism in sport. 

Joining Scott Gray, Director of Athletics & Recreation on the ice along with team captains were: 

Logan Prosper – Logan Prosper of Whycocomagh First Nation. Logan faced racial taunts in a Midget hockey game this season. In response, Logan and his father Phillip started the Red Tape Initiative which offers support to all those playing the great game of hockey, creating an awareness that there is racism in hockey, and that we all have a responsibility in combatting it.

Erin Denny - Erin Denny, of Eskasoni First Nation. Erin currently plays Forward for the MacIntyre Chevy Panthers of the Nova Scotia Female Midget AAA Hockey League. Erin recently represented Nova Scotia at the 2019 Canada Games, and Team Atlantic at the 2019 National Women's Under-18 Hockey Championship. Erin will be joining the Huskies next season.

Trevor Sanipass - Trevor Sanipass, from Eskasoni First Nation. Trevor is an Indigenous Liaison Officer with the Nova Scotia Department of Justice. However, some of you may know Trevor from his work with the CBC's Information Morning, where he has a column that helps to educate about Mi'kmaw culture. This column is called 'Aknute'n', which translates to "tell us a story".
