Moncton upends SMU 2-1 in men's soccer

(HALIFAX, N.S.)—The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus stole three points from the Saint Mary's Huskies on Friday night, scoring two second-half goals in a 2-1 win from Huskies Stadium in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action.

Both teams were scoreless after 45 minutes, which saw Moncton pepper the SMU goal with five shots as the Huskies only mustered one shot on net as each keeper made one save in the half.

Adam Dunsworth (Halifax, NS) opened the scoring in the 51^st minute with an assist from Alex Black (Halifax, NS), who fed Dunsworth after a long pass from the midfield set up the goal as SMU led 1-0.

Three minutes later Simon Brideau (Tracadie, NB) tied the game 1-1 in the 54^th minute when a SMU defender mishandled a Moncton cross and Brideau caught the ball with his right foot, which beat SMU keeper Jensen Brown (Enfield, NS) and tucked the ball under the crossbar.

Moncton added an insurance goal in the 71^st minute off a free-kick from Nathan Goulet 21-yards out. Goulet's kick took a bounce off the turf in front of Brown and went off his chest, where Heritier Masimengo (Kinshasa, Congo) pounced on the juicy rebound and Moncton took a 2-1 lead for the victory.

Christian Masimengo (Kinshasa, Congo) made four saves in net for Moncton, who improve to 3-7-0 and sit three points behind SMU for the sixth and final playoff spot.

Brown finished with three saves in the loss as SMU drops to 3-4-3 and hold the last playoff spot with 12 points.

Both teams return to action this weekend at 3:15 p.m. with SMU hosting Mount Allison (0-9-0) October 20 and Memorial University (1-4-3) visits Moncton October 21.
