In the season and home opener for the Huskies, the Saint Mary's Huskies Men's soccer team defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 3-0 on a chilly Friday evening at Huskies Stadium.

The opening score came from a penalty kick by Saint Mary's wing forward Sean Freeman (Hammonds Plains, N.S.) to put the Huskies up 1-0 in the first ten minutes of the match.

The offence continued to attack as the Huskies increased their lead to 2-0, on a breakaway goal by Huskies midfielder Sumit Malik (Dartmouth, N.S.)

Both defences continued to battle in the final minutes of the first half, as the score remained 2-0 in favour of the Huskies at halftime.

At the start of the second half of the match, the two hardworking offences and defences were at a stalemate causing no change in score.

Late in the game, the Huskies scored on a goal from first year midfielder Jalen Loague (London, ON) assisted by defender Kaveh Wornell (Dartmouth, N.S.)

With time running out for the Mounties, the visitors were unable to find an answer for this relentless Huskies scoring attack. The Saint Mary's Huskies took the victory 3-0 over the Mount Allison Mounties.

Goalkeeper Jensen Brown (Enfield, N.S) tallied eight spectacular saves, giving Brown a perfect save percentage to start the season.

The Subway Player of the Game was awarded to Huskies wing forward Sean Freeman (Hammonds Plains, N.S.)

Saint Mary's starts off the season 1-0 and travel to take on the Cape Breton Capers on Sunday September 11th at 3:15 pm in Sydney, N.S.

Mount Allison falls 0-1 on the season and gets ready to come back to Halifax, N.S. to play the Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday September 10th at 7:15 p.m.
