SMU Open Track & Field Results

(Halifax, NS)  The Huskies hosted their annual home meet, the SMU Open, Saturday at the Canada Games Centre. With the meet being the final opportunity to compete before the AUS Championships, many of the universities in the AUS attended.

In the men's 1000m, first year athlete Andrew Peverill won the event and broke another Saint Mary's school record with a time of 2:27.28. This is the fastest time in the AUS this season and 8th fastest in the country. Peverill now holds the 1000m, 1500m and 3000m school records.

In the women's triple jump, Ashley Murray placed 2nd and continued her impressive season with a jump of 10.59m which breaks the Saint Mary's school record that she previously held.

In the men's 1500m, captain Jonathan Peverill won the event and set a personal best with a finish of 4:01.16.

First year athlete Ryan Hebb set personal bests In the men's 60m and 300m, with official times of 7.40 and 38.45 respectively. Also recording personal bests in the 60m were Adrian Bah (7.46), Kotio Eastman (7.56), Brian Bagot (7.80), John Atwood (7.98) and Connor MacPherson (8.18). In the 300m, Zach Parris (38.82), Colin McKay (40.70) and John Atwood (42.18) all recorded personal bests.

Stephen Goodyear set a personal best in the men's 3000m event with a time of 9:36.54.

Next up for the Huskies is the AUS Track and Field Championships, February 23/24th at Université de Moncton. Well done to everyone who competed on the weekend and good luck to those competing at the AUS Championships!
