Track & Field - Emily Batt set new school record in the women’s pentathlon
(Saint John, NB) The Huskies track and field teams competed at the NB Indoor Champs & University Invitational that was hosted at the new Irving Oil Fieldhouse in Saint John which will be the host of the AUS Championships will be held later this month.
In the women's pentathlon, Emily Batt continued her string of strong performances, setting a new school record in the women's pentathlon with a score of 2590 and bettering her previous school record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.75. Batt would place 2nd in the pentathlon.
The women's 1000m was highly contested with Bhreagh Burke crossing the line in 2nd place with a sprint finish time of 3:01.97. Burke was also apart of the women's 4x800m relay which took place on the Friday night portion of the competition. The relay team composed of Burke, Sophie Leblanc, Sarah Polak and Gael Cameron finished 3rd place in a time of 10:38.21. Leblanc, Polak and Cameron would also PB in their individual events, with Leblanc and Polak crossing the line in the 600m with times of 1:47.24 and 1:53.92 respectively, and Cameron in the 1000m with a time of 3:36.75.
Also recording personal bests for the women's team were Emily Batt in the shot put with a throw of 10.60m and Abby Dunn in the 300m with a time of 46.38.
On the men's side, Kyle Caie finished 3rd in a strong 1500m field. Caie crossed the line in a time of 4:04.70. Caie also was a part of the men's 4x200m relay team which placed 3rd in a time of 1:41.72. The relay squad was composed of Caie, Matthew Carlton, Erik Johnson and Necko Clayton.
In the men's high jump, Brett Corbin placed 3rd in a jump of 1.75m.
Next up for the Huskies is their home meet. The SMU Open will be held Sunday, Feb. 9th at the Canada Games Centre.
