Huskies open season at Athletics NS Last Chance Meet
The Saint Mary's Huskies track & field team opened their season at the Athletics Nova Scotia Last Chance Meet, held November 21st and 22nd at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax. The meet brought together athletes from across the region, and the Huskies delivered several standout results on the track and in the field as they continue preparations for the upcoming AUS indoor season.
While the 600m may have been the last event of the evening, the Huskies shone in it on both the men's and women's sides. Oliver Gavel and Liam Foley fended off four Dal Tigers in their race to finish 1st (1:23.90, Gavel) and 2nd (1:24.62, Foley), respectively. Both times were personal bests. Alexandra Campbell also delivered for the Huskies in the women's 600m, as she kicked home and finished 3rd in 1:43.44, a new personal best for her.
In the women's 1500m, 5th year captain, Ashley Brady, placed 3rd in a new personal best time of 5:12.35. On the men's side, Zack Kennedy finished 2nd overall in a new personal best time of 4:11.43, while also PB'ing in the 3000m the night before in a time of 9:06.09.
In the 60m, Chad Smith opened his season with a 3rd place finish in a time of 7.05, leading the Huskies sprint squad in their season opener.
Also recording personal bests were Oliver Hubka in the 1500m (4:25.23) and 3000m (9:30.38), Brianna Lawton in the Long Jump (4.62m), and Cian Kelly in the 3000m (9:15.51).
The Huskies are back again competing next weekend in the SMU vs Dal Dual Meet on Sunday, November 30th at the Canada Games Centre.
