Huskies set school record, personal bests at Athletics N.B. Invitational Meet
The Huskies Track & Field team was on the road this past weekend in Saint John, N.B. as they competed in the Athletics New Brunswick University Invitational Meet.
In a meet typically billed as a pre-AUS meet, with most of the AUS schools in attendance, the Huskies delivered some excellent results as the season counts down to the AUS Championships on February 20-21.
On the first day of competition, the Women's 4x800m relay team broke a 20-year-old school record, placing 2nd in a time of 9:52.23. The team was composed of Frances MacLeod, Alexandra Campbell, Ashley Brady, and Julia Wilkie.
The Huskies weren't done there with results on day one, as Brianna Lawton scored a personal best in the Women's Pentathlon (2617 points), including personal bests in the Long Jump and 60mH events, finishing 4th overall.
Continuing his success from previous meets, Ciaran MacDonald jumped to a first-place finish in the Men's Triple Jump with a jump of 13.20m, narrowly off his personal best.
Day two saw similar results come the Huskies way, capped off by a double personal best by Magnus Bilmer – on his birthday no less – in the Men's 60m and Long Jump, finishing 4th with a jump of 6.14m.
In the field, the throwers continued progressing their results, as Fergus Porter broke the 13 metre barrier for the first time in Shot Put, throwing 13.07m to finish 5th. Jonathon Vanwart and Violet Coffin also threw personal bests in the Weight Throw, with Vanwart throwing 12.91m and Coffin throwing 10.53m.
The Huskies are at home next weekend as they host the annual SMU Open at the Canada Games Centre on February 7th.
