Huskies set personal bests at SMU Open

The Huskies hosted their annual home meet of the year – the SMU Open – and in their final competition before the AUS Championships in two weeks, the maroon and white showed that they are starting to peak at the right time.

The track events got underway with a bang, as Chandler Zinck-Marier continued his season's successes with a new personal best in the 60m and a 3rd place finish, in a time of 6.94. This currently ranks him tied for 2nd in the AUS this season and 35th in U SPORTS. Zinck-Marier wasn't the only one with personal bests in the 60m, as Ethan Delphin (7.12), Noah Skeete (7.18), and Tobi Wale-Akinola (7.31) all ran lifetime bests.

On the women's side, rookie Frances MacLeod ran two new personal bests in the 600m (1:38.21), and in a very competitive field of 1000m, 2:53.80. Alex Campbell followed suit in the 1000m with a new personal best time of 3:09.04, and Julia Wilkie in the 600m with a 1:45.88.

Ending off the event was the always-exciting 4x200m, where the crowd was loud and rambunctious. The Men's 4x200m relay team, composed of Ethan Delphin, Chandler Zinck-Marier, Noah Skeete, and Oliver Gavel, finished neck-and-neck with Dalhousie, ultimately placing 2nd with a time of 1:30.24. This currently ranks the Huskies 4x200m relay team 3rd in the AUS this season, and 17th in U SPORTS.

The Huskies look onwards to the AUS Championships, hosted by the Université de Moncton, on February 20-21.
