Huskies fall to Axewomen

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Acadia Axewomen won their second game of the weekend against the Huskies by a score of 84-60 and improving their record to 11-3 on a five game winning streak.

The Axewomen jumped out to a 17-13 in the opening quarter against the 1-13 Huskies.

Rachel Clouatre-Trudeau (St. Jean sur Richelieu, Que.) lead the Axewomen off the bench in the first, contributing 6 points.

Clouatre-Trudeau continued to dominate in the second quarter, bringing her point total to 13 on four of six from the field. She would finish the game as the Subway Player of the Game with 15 points.

Arianna Macias (Tampa, Florida) stood out for the Huskies, putting up 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists in the first half.

The Axewomen increased their lead 42-31 in the closing minutes of the opening half.

Haley MacDonald (Port Williams, N.S.) overtook Clouatre-Trudeau as the scoring leader in the third with 15 points on 5/16 shooting.

Acadia's lead grew again in the third, leading 60-44. The Huskies would need a big fourth quarter to come back in this game.

The Axewomen were able to hold their lead in the fourth quarter for an 84-60 win. The Axewomen dominated in every statistical category including the Huskies posting 22 turnovers, yet Acadia only capitalized on turnover points.

Clouatre-Trudeau contributed to the Axewomen's 30 points off the bench.

"I was ready to go and I kept my game simple to play great defense and I played my role and I had success at that tonight," said Clouatre-Trudeau following the game.

The Axewomen out-rebounded Saint Mary's 42-31, with Sarsha Cadle pulling down a game-leading 11 rebounds. McDonald netted a team-high 17 points, while Huskie Arianna Macias netted 20 points in the game as the Huskies' Player of the Game

Acadia makes a trip to Dalhousie on Saturday for a 4-point game, while the Huskies hope to end a six game slide this coming weekend as they take on the third place Cape Breton Capers for a 4-point game in Sydney on Saturday.
