Huskies shutout Panthers 3-0

(Halifax, NS) The Saint Mary's shutout the visiting UPEI Panthers 3-0 in AUS women's hockey action, Thursday night at the Halifax Civic Centre.

 

The third place Huskies opened the scoring at 3:56 of the first period on a goal by Caitlin Pejkovic (Sherwood Park, AB) assisted by Kaitlin Howarth (Thunder Bay, ON).

 

SMU increased their lead by two at 6:45 of the first when Shae Demale (Red Deer, AB) scored on a pass from Kaitlin Howarth, to give her her second assist on the night.

 

Shots after the first were 12-11 in favor of Saint Mary's. 

 

The second period saw no scoring with SMU once again leading the Panthers 9-7 in shots on goal.

 

At 18:28 of the third period, Shae Demale got her second of the game and her 8th on the season, to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead that they would be the final score.  Assist on the goal was awarded to Leandra Timmerman (Rathwell, MB). 

 

Ashely Forler turned away 24 shots for the Huskies and received the shutout.  Panthers goalie Camille Scherger had 30 saves.

 

Subway Player of the game went to Shae Demale.  In their next matchup, the Huskies host the St. Thomas Tommies on January 19th at the Halifax Civic.  Game time 4:30. Next up for PEI is Moncton on the 12th.
