Brooke Murphy scores two, Huskies top Panthers 4-1

 (Halifax, NS) The Saint Mary's Huskies improve to 4-0 in women's AUS hockey action, with a 4-1 home win over UPEI in AUS women's hockey action.

 

It didn't take the Huskies much time to get on the board in the first, when Ellen Laurence (Kentville, NS) opened the scoring at 4:11.  Assisting on the goal was Aimee O'Neill and Eve LeBlanc

 

The Huskies doubled their lead at 9:28 on a goal by Mary McDonald (Calgary, AB).  Alex McMillan earned an assist on the goal.

 

The period finished with the Huskies leading 2-0.  Shots after the first were 12-4 in favor of SMU. 

 

In the 2nd, both teams traded shots, 9-8 in favor of UPEI, but nothing hit the back of the net and the score remained 2-0 at the end of two. 

 

Brooke Murphy (Balla Phillip, NB) scored the Huskies third goal on a power play to open up the third on an assist from Kaitlin Howarth.  Murphy would find the net again for the 4th Huskies goal on assists from Siobhan Birch and Taylor.

 

The Panthers scored at 4:47 of the 3rd on a goal by Taylor Gillis.  Assists came from Tiah Scichilione and Ally Clements.

 

On the power play the Panthers went 0-4 and the Huskies were 1-5.  The Subway Player of the Game was awarded to SMU's Brooke Murphy with two goals in the win.

 

The Huskies host UNB Friday, October 18th at the Dauphinee Centre, while the Panthers travel to StFX.  Both game times 7 p.m.
