X-Women shutout Huskies in rugby season finale

(HALIFAX, N.S.)—The visiting StFX X-Women defeated the home side SMU Huskies 49-0 on Wednesday night in Atlantic University Sport women's rugby action from Huskies Stadium.

The U SPORTS No. 2 ranked X-Women used eight different scorers in the contest and built a 32-0 halftime lead.

Forward Alex Hamilton (Eastern Passage, NS) opened the scoring for StFX followed by flyhalf Hannah Ellis (Halifax, NS), prop Emma MacDougall (Halifax, NS) and winger Maddie Arenett (Hamilton, ON) adding trys in the first half.

Second half trys were added by centers Kathleen Dolan (Halifax, NS) and Maddison Stuart (Calgary, AB), no. 8 Tashayla Tynes (Halifax, NS) and 2nd row Jade Borden-Lee (Halifax, NS).

With the victory the X-Women finish the AUS rugby season undefeated at 6-0 while the Huskies finish 0-6. 

StFX awaits the winner of the AUS semi-final game between the Acadia Axewomen and the UPEI Panthers.

Backrow Brittany MacKinnon (Halifax, NS) and winger Heather Stanton (Digby, NS) graduate as 5th year players for Saint Mary's while fourth-year players include prop Maggie MacPhee (Riverview, NB), scrum/flyhalf Julie Naugler (Stillwater Lake, NS), lock Teaghen Phillips (Halifax, NS), prop/lock Katrena Thomas (Windsor, NS) and hooker Brittany White (Sherwood, PEI) for the Huskies.
