X-Women top Huskies 2-0

(Halifax, NS)—Two first half goals Sunday afternoon saw the StFX X-Women beat the Saint Mary's Huskies 2-0 in Atlantic University Sport women's soccer action from Huskies Stadium.

Megan Frost (Ottawa. ON) received a chip shot pass from the X midfield and her attempt to cross the ball deflected off SMU goalie Ashley Blank's (Dartmouth, NS) right hand and found the net to Blank's surprise in the 12th minute.

Midfielder Larissa White (Westphal, NS) beat Blank from 35-yards out low to the left corner in the 41st minute to extend the X Women lead 2-0 for the win.

White also finished with an assist in X's win and improve to 4-2-3 (15 points) on the year.

For her efforts, White was named Player of the Game.

Whitby, Ontario native Erin Visser (4-0-1) picked up the win in nets for StFX while Blank and the Huskies drop to 0-9-0 on the year.

Each goalie made two saves in the match while StFX led in shots (12-4) and corner kicks (5-4).

Both teams return to action October 21st-22nd when X play host to Mount Allison (1-8-0) Saturday and Dalhousie (5-2-1, 16 points) Sunday while SMU hits the road and plays UNB (2-4-3, 9 points) Saturday and Moncton (4-4-0, 12 points) Sunday.

All matches are 1 p.m. while Saint Mary's vs UNB October 21st is 3 p.m.

To celebrate Alumni Weekend,  the Huskies and the SMU Alumni Office hosted a very successful women's soccer reunion after the game.  Several players and coaches from the past were in attendance to help celebrate the women's soccer tradition at Saint Mary's.  Women's soccer became a varsity sport at Saint Mary's in 1987 under head coach Angela Cianfaglione.
