Huskies drop home-opener to Acadia

(HALIFAX, N.S.) The Saint Mary's Huskies dropped their 2018 home-opener 6-0 to the Acadia Axewomen on Sunday afternoon from Huskies Stadium.

Midfielder Rachelle Aucoin (Cheticamp, NS) scored her first of two goals early in the 13thminute for Acadia off a corner-kick which was headed off the SMU line and flicked in by Aucoin with an assist from Julea Walsh (Hammonds Plains, NS).

Ten minutes later Alexandra Scovil (Hubley, NS) scored in the 23rdminute off a cross from Jenna Bordreau (Halifax, NS).

Aucoin added her second of the game and third goal this season in the 33rdminute on a hard-low shot that fooled SMU keeper Ashley Blank (Dartmouth, NS).

Aucoin found herself on the scoring sheet once again in the 39thminute when she set-up Boudreau for her first goal of the year as Acadia took a 4-0 lead at half.

Annika Monroe (Halifax, NS) and Mckenzie Kelly (Barss, NS) each added second-half goals for the Axewomen, who took the victory 6-0 and improve to 2-0 on the Atlantic University Sport season.

Aucoin was named the Subway Player of the Game for her three points on the afternoon.

Next up, Saint Mary's hosts StFX Saturday, September 15that 1 p.m., while Acadia plays hosts to Memorial University Sunday, September 16th.
