Huskies top Mounties 2-1

(Sackville, NB) – In AUS women's soccer action Sunday, the Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 2-1 at Alumni Field.

 

The Mounties were awarded a penalty kick in the 23rdminute, but first-year keeper Kyanna Gilks had a beautiful save on the kick. The score at half was 0-0.

 

Saint Mary's Alexa Tymkiw scored the first goal of the match at the 61stminute, a beautiful header goal off the Huskie's corner kick for her first goal of the AUS season. 

 

The Mounties were awarded their second penalty kick of the game, and Mounties Amanda Piltzmaker placed it in the bottom righthand side of the goal, scoring her first goal of the season and tying the game 1-1.

 

The SMU Huskies didn't give up, pressing the Mounties. Saint Mary's Anelise Karakostas shot the ball at MTA keeper Sophie Austin, who fumbled the ball and the Huskies went ahead 2-1. The score remained 2-1 for the duration of the game.

 

The Subway Player of the Game went to SMU's rookie keeper Kyanna Gilks, for her strong first game of her first AUS season. 

 

After a Thanksgiving break, the Huskies travel to Cape Breton on Friday, October 12thand the Mounties travel to Moncton on Saturday, October 13th. MTA and SMU will face each other one more time this season, on Saturday, October 20thin Halifax, NS.
