Sydney, NS – The second quarter-final of the 2018 Subway Women's Soccer Championship started with a flurry of goals as the St. Francis Xavier X-Women defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 5-0.
The X-Women scored early and often, scoring in the 5th, 14th, 20th and 24th minute to go into half with a 4-0 lead. Kelsey Ellis (Ottawa, ON) scored a pair and singles were added by Catherine Kennedy (Antigonish, NS) and Olivia Czipf (Thunder Bay, ON). Kennedy, Ellis, Mercy Myles (Accra, Ghana) and Chloe Brennan (Brookside, NS) picked up assists on the first half goals. Elise Brennan (Brookside, NS) scored the 5th goal off a hand ball in the box penalty in the second half.
X keeper Emma Kuzmyk (Cookstown, ON) earned the clean sheet and the victory. SMU Keeper Kyanna Gilks (Halifax, NS) allowed 4 goals in the first half and Ashley Blank (Cole Harbour, NS) played the second half for the Huskies and allowed 1 goal.
With the win, the X-Women will now face the 2nd-seed Acadia Axewomen on Friday at 11:30am in the semi-finals.
