Women's Soccer - SMU 1 Acadia 4

HALIFAX, N.S. - The Acadia Axewomen remain undefeated with a win against the Saint Mary's Huskies on Friday evening by a score of 4-1.

The Huskies cracked the scoreboard first at 9'. The initial shot by Anelise Karakostas (Victoria, B.C.) made a funny bounce off a player out front and made its way over Acadia's keeper Spencer Skinner (Hammonds Plains, N.S.) for the 1-0 lead.

Jenna Boudreau (Halifax, N.S.) had a great chance to score at the 20 minute mark, but her shot hit the post to keep the score at 1-0.

Acadia's tying goal was a beautiful strike by Madicynn Harnish (Lower Sackville, N.S.) from 20 yards out. The shot curved its way into the top right corner, beating SMU's keeper Grace Morrison (Halifax, N.S.).

Acadia struck again at 36' after a corner kick by Meghan Johnston (Dartmouth, N.S.) was deflected into the net by Lauren Jodery (Bedford, N.S.) to give the Axewomen the 2-1 advantage.

The Axewomen wasted no time at the start of the second half and put up another goal. Grace Longely (Bedford, N.S.) tapped in a shot that came out off the post and brought the score to 3-1.

Boudreau finally scored a goal at the 54 minute mark and put the Axewomen up by 3 with a well-placed shot to beat Morrison.

The final score favoured the Axewomen 4-1

Holly Buckler (Halifax, N.S.) had a great game on defence and helped the Axewomen secure the victory. She was named her team's Subway Player of the Game.

Midfielder Hanna Dorey (Halifax, N.S.) of the Huskies gave it everything she had, but they were unable to get the win. Dorey was the Huskies' player of the game.

After the game, Buckler said her team is still looking for that playoff spot and won't rest until they get it.

"We had a bit of time off for Thanksgiving so we came out a bit slow this game, but we were able to pick it back up. We just kept our heads up and pressed on," said Buckler of Friday's match.

The Huskies drop to 1-9-0 and head home for a game against UPEI Saturday evening.

The Axewomen improve to 8-0-2 and travel to New Brunswick tomorrow for a Saturday afternoon game against the Moncton Aigles Bleues.
