Huskies down Seahawks 3-1 in volleyball action
(HALIFAX, N.S.)—The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Memorial University Sea-Hawks in four sets, 25-22, 25-20, 12-25, 25-18 at the Homburg Centre on Friday night in Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball action.
An entertaining first set, SMU led 5-4 and 10-6 early on when Memorial soared back mid-set, tying 19-19 and even led the set 20-19.
A 6-2 SMU run close out the frame 25-22.
Memorial had 10 kills in the set compared to SMU's nine.
An 8-2 SMU run wiped out an early 4-1 Memorial lead and halfway thru the second set the Huskies led 9-6.
Tied at 10-10, 16-16 and 17-17, the Huskies used another run, 8-3, to close out the second set and win 25-20.
Memorial turned the table in the third set and led by as many as 13 points.
The Sea-Hawks had nine kills and flew to a 25-12 third set win.
Both teams battled in the fourth set and sat tied 8-8.
Saint Mary's led by as much as four points mostly throughout the mid set point, 20-16.
A 5-1 run ended the set 25-18 for SMU, and the match 3-1.
Memorial's Alyssa Warford (Corner Brook, NL) and SMU's Bethany Smith (Moncton, NB) paced each squad with 13 kills apiece.
The Sea-Hawks fall to 0-1 while SMU improves to 2-1 in conference play.
Memorial's in town this weekend for a three-game set with Saint Mary's.
Both teams return to action November 2nd at 7 p.m. and November 3rd 1 p.m.
