Saint Mary's hosting AUS Cross Country Championships - October 25th

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - The 2014 Subway AUS cross country championships take place this weekend in Halifax as Saint Mary's University will host the region's top university runners Saturday afternoon at Point Pleasant Park.

The StFX X-Men, the three-time defending AUS men's champions, are looking to once again defend their title, while the Dalhousie Tigers women's squad have their sights set on a fourth AUS women's banner in the past five seasons.

On the men's side, defending individual champion John Kuto of the host Saint Mary's team, won UNB/STU Invitational and was also the top finisher at the Moncton Invitational weeks ago.

StFX's Lee Wesselius took top individual honours at season-opening meet at Acadia, while Scott Donald, also of the X-Men was the top AUS finisher at the StFX Invitational where runners from the RSEQ conference also participated.

The X-Men are the only AUS men's team in the CIS top 10, ranked seventh nationally: http://english.cis-sic.ca/sports/mxc/2014-15/top10.

The women's individual race should be wide open. Dalhousie's Ellen Chappell won the Acadia Invitational Sept. 13 and finished third at the StFX Invitational earlier this month in Antigonish. Liz MacDonald of the StFX X-Women clamied UNB/STU Invitational cross-country meet earlier this season in Fredericton, while UNB's Katie Robinson was the winner of the Moncton Invitational on October 4th.

The Dalhousie women's team is the lone AUS representative in the most recent CIS top 10, ranked ninth nationally: http://english.cis-sic.ca/sports/wxc/2014-15/top10.

The AUS cross-country championships take place at Point Pleasant Park Saturday afternoon in Halifax starting at 12 p.m. The races will begin and end near the Sailor's Monument in the bottom section of the park.

The women's 6K race stats at 12:00pm, and the men's 10K race gets underway at 12:45 pm.

Fans are encouraged to take a walk down to beautiful Point Pleasant Park on Saturday and see the great athletes competing in this year's championship.
