Cross Country - Moncton Invitation

(Moncton, NB)  In their second race of the season, the Cross Country Huskies improved on their previous success despite several key performers being injured. On what some consider one of the toughest courses in the AUS, both teams had strong performances.

In the women's 6k race, Samantha Fader (this past week's Female Athlete of the Week for SMU) was first across the line for the Huskies in 25:46.30. Paige Roszak, showing resilience despite the hills was second for Saint Mary's in 26:34.50. Leila Zaki clocked a 27:44.30 as the Huskie's third place runner. Jessica Hinkka once again showed incredible finishing speed as she passed several runners on her way to being Saint Mary's fourth runner across the line. Georgina Beeden rounded out the top five runners for the women's Cross Country Huskies. Dalhousie's Colleen Wilson won the women's 6k race.

On the men's side, Jonathan Peverill made a 29:57.10 look easy in the 8k race. Christopher Lee was second across the line for the Huskies in 30:32.60, running a tactically sound race that allowed him to reel in other competitors in the late stages of the race. Third for Saint Mary's was Cameron Taylor, clocking a 31:19.90. Andrew Herold rounded off the Huskies top four.  St. F.X.'s Scott Donald won the men's 8k race.

The Cross Country Huskie's next race is at home in Point Pleasant Park on Saturday, October 8th. The women race at 12:00 pm, and the men will be racing at 12:45pm. Come out and cheer on your Huskies!
