Cross Country - Results Meet #2 hosted by StFX

(Antigonish, NS) The SMU Women's and Men's Cross Country teams competed at the StFX Invitational, on Saturday. 

At noon, the gun went off for the women's race. Rainy, muggy conditions for the race created some slick spots on the course. The Huskies were represented by Solana Purdy, Georgia Derhak and Sarah Polak. Third year Purdy finished 34thin the 6km race with a time of 28:40, while Derhak, donning the maroon and white for the first time, finished 35thin 30:36. Third year Polak finished just behind in 37thwith a time of 30:46. Acadia's Katie Robinson as the overall winner of the women's race.

Forty-five minutes later, the men's race commenced. With the rain stopped, the sun broke out creating a completely different environment from the previous women's race. The Huskies were represented by Jonathan Peverill, Joe Stewart, Kyle Caie and Stephen Goodyear. Fifth year Peverill finished 13thin the 8km race with a time of 28:53, while rookies, Stewart and Caie, finished 19thin 29:28 and 27thin 31:31 respectively. Goodyear finished just behind in 29thwith a time of 31:35. St.FX's Alex Neuffer was the overall winner of the men's race.

The Huskies now look ahead to the AUS-RSEQ Interlock Meet being held October 6 at Odell Park in Fredericton.
