Huskies Draw with Panthers

Halifax, N.S.– A windy afternoon was the backdrop for AUS Women's Soccer action Sunday as the Saint Mary's University Huskies took on the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers.

The sun was shining but the bitter harbour wind played havoc for the teams as they found themselves in a defensive battle throughout the match.

The first saw both squads have equal opportunities in a relatively equal half but both keepers backstopped their squads to a 0-0 draw at half.  The Huskies Soninka Nandha (Surrey BC / Science) was strong in the net while he counterpart on the Panthers Veronica Kozak was equal.

The second half saw the Huskies squad press in the Panthers zone; looking for the elusive goal to take control of the match.  Both Anelise Karakostas (Victoria BC / Arts) and Hanna Dorey (Halifax / Commerce) both peppered shots at the visitors only to be turned away by Kozak.   As time ran out in the game the final score stood at a 0-0 draw.   The Huskies outshot the Panther 16-4 in the contest.

AUS Subway Player of the Game for the Huskies was Panthers keeper Veronica Kozak who had 12 saves in the match.

Saint Mary's returns to the pitch October 29 as they play host to Cape Breton University at Huskies Stadium.

UPEI closes out their season also on October 29 as they travel to Wolfville to take on the Axewomen of Acadia.
