Huskies Season Ends with Loss to Capers

Halifax - The Saint Mary's Huskies lost 4-1 to the Cape Breton University Capers. Not a surprising

result considering the Capers are the heavy favourites to win the division this year and

headed into the game undefeated on the season (8-0-3).

The Huskies started the game strong, controlling the pace of the game for the first ten

minutes. The Huskies were also the first on the score sheet with Anna Erikson (Invermere

BC / Commerce) scoring at the six minute mark.

After the initial pressure and goal from the Huskies they seemed content to sit back and

soak up the pressure from the Capers. The Capers had the bulk of possession in the half,

but the Huskies counter attack was strong and they managed to get a handful of quality

scoring chances.

The Capers decided to change tactics in the 30th minute, bringing on Abby Macneil for

Paige Allaby. The change seemed to work as the Capers started piling on the pressure.

Grace Morrison (Halifax NS / Commerce) aggressively defended her net, keeping the

Huskies lead intact. She was fearless in the defence of her net. Late in the half, Morrison

faced a one on one with Caper striker Alliyah Rowe. Morrison dove at Rowe's feet to steal

the slightly over hit ball. But Rowe wouldn't be contained long, as minutes later she fought

off three huskies and moved the ball up the field, playing it out to the left wing to Erin

Freeman at the back post who put the ball past a diving Morrison.

The half ended with both teams tied at one.

Huskies started the second half strong, playing long balls to space that Huskies' striker and

half time sub Halle Williams (Hamilton ON / Science) was able to get to and put on net, or

out for a corner.

The Capers took the lead in the 58th minute with a goal from Freeman. Freeman was left

alone just a little too long inside the Huskies' 18 yard box and slotted the ball low in the

corner, beating Morrison.

Huskies turned up the pressure after the goal for five minutes, but the Capers got a corner in

the 63 minute and Caper Amelia Carlini got on the end of Amy-Anne Ndiaye's corner and put

it in the Huskies' net. In the 68th minute the Capers scored their fourth goal and final goal of

the night.

AUS Subway Player of the Game was the Capers Alliyah Rowe with 3 assists.

The Capers are heading to play Dal tomorrow.

This is the final game of the Huskies season this year.
