Huskies in Lake Placid: Saint Mary's hockey stars finding success at FISU Winter Games

Four Saint Mary's hockey players - Shae Demale of the Huskies Women's team and Andrew Coxhead, Justin MacPherson and Matt Welsh of the Huskies Men's team - have helped Canada to undefeated group stages and will play in this weekend's semifinals at the 2023 FISU Winter Games in Lake Placid, NY.

Forward Shae Demale (Red Deer, AB) was one of Canada's standout performers throughout the tournament, leading Canada and tying for the tournament lead with five goals through the group stage. She added three assists, with her eight points ranking second on Canada and sixth in the tournament. Demale is also among the team leaders in shots on goal (13) and plus/minus (+9)

The Canadian Women ended the group stage with a perfect 5-0 record, and will play Slovakia in Friday's semifinal, which will be broadcasted on TSN5 at 3:30 p.m. AST.

Forward Andrew Coxhead (Bedford, NS) scored a goal in Canada's 4-0 win over Czech Republic on Wednesday, to help Canada to a perfect 5-0 record in the group stage. Coxhead has recorded two goals, two assists, 15 shots on goal and a +6 plus/minus through the group stage. 

Defenceman Justin MacPherson (East Gwillimbury, ON) recorded two assists in Canada's 6-1 win over Ukraine on Jan. 12. He's recorded two assists, 16 shots on goal and a +8 plus/minus (ranking second on Team Canada) through the group stage.

Goaltender Matt Welsh (Halifax, NS) made 18 saves in Canada's 8-2 win over Japan on Jan. 15, his lone appearance of the group stage.

The Canadian Men ended the group stage with a perfect 5-0 record, and will play for a semifinal on Saturday, which will be broadcasted on TSN5 at 10:30 a.m. AST.
