Dunkley, McMillan named Huskies Athletes of the Week: Jan. 23-30, 2023

Men's hockey forward Nathan Dunkley and women's basketball guard Alaina McMillan have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week of Jan. 23-30, 2023.

Nathan Dunkley, a second year forward from Campbellford, ON, is the Huskies male athlete of the week for the week of Jan. 23-30, 2023.

In Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Acadia Axemen, Dunkley was named Subway Player of the Game, recording two assists and posting a +2 plus/minus.

In Friday's 5-2 win over the UPEI Panthers, Dunkley scored a powerplay goal, and added an assist and posted a +2 plus/minus.

Over the Huskies current three game win-streak, Dunkley has scored seven points (two goals, five assists) and is a +5. For the season, he leads the Huskies in points with 24, is second on the team with 17 assists and a +11 plus/minus.

The Huskies - currently ranked #10 in U SPORTS - have won three straight games and nine of their last 11. They currently sit in second place in the AUS standings with a 17-9-0-0 record.

Alaina McMillan, a fourth year guard from Brantford, ON, is the Huskies female athlete of the week for the week of Jan. 23-30, 2023.

In three games this week - all Huskies wins - McMillan averaged 19.3 points, including shooting 50% (13/26) from three, and 90% (9/10) from the free-throw line, and added 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and one steal per game.

In Monday's 80-57 win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks, McMillan led the Huskies with 16 points, and added seven rebounds and three assists.

In Tuesday's 72-64 win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks, McMillan was named Subway Player of the Game, leading the Huskies with 24 points, and adding four rebounds and three assists. During Tuesday's win, McMillan scored the 1000th point of AUS regular season career, becoming just the ninth Huskies women's basketball player to hit that career milestone.

In Saturday's 87-72 win over the St. FX X-Women, McMillan was again named Subway Player of the Game, scoring 18 points, and adding three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The Huskies have won three straight games and 10 of their last 13 and currently sit in second place in the AUS standings with an 11-4 record.
