Bishop, Demale named Huskies Athletes of the Week: Jan. 30-Feb. 5, 2023

Men's hockey forward Joel Bishop and women's hockey forward Shae Demale have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 5, 2023.

Joel Bishop, a third year forward from St. John's, NL, is the Huskies male athlete of the week for the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 5, 2023.

In Friday night's 5-1 win over Moncton, Bishop scored a pair of goals, registered five shots on goal and a +3 plus/minus.

In Saturday night's 4-2 win over the UNB REDS, Bishop scored a shorthanded goal, registered four shots on goal and a +2 plus/minus.

On the season, Bishop is tied for seventh on the Huskies with seven goals, and is tied for first in the AUS with two shorthanded markers.

The Huskies - currently ranked #6 in U SPORTS - head into the final week of the regular season on a five-game winning streak, bringing their record to 19-9-0. They'll be back on home ice on Friday night, hosting the St. FX X-Men, before visiting crosstown rival Dalhousie Tigers for the final game of the regular season.

Shae Demale, a fourth year forward from Red Deer, AB, is the Huskies female athlete of the week for the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 5, 2023.

In Friday's 3-2 win over the St. FX X-Women, Demale assisted on teammate Ellen Laurence's game-opening goal, and recorded three shots on goal.

Saturday night's game against UPEI marked the final regular season home game of Demale's illustrious Huskies career, and she had a senior night to remember. With the Huskies trailing 3-0 entering the third period, Demale scored a powerplay marker, and followed it up with a shorthanded marker to tie the game at 3-3. In the ensuing shootout, Demale scored on both of her opportunities to secure the 4-3 come-from-behind victory. Demale finished the night with two goals and 11 shots on goal, and was named Subway Player of the Game.

On the season, Demale ranks second in the AUS with 17 goals and 124 shots, and third with 30 points.

The Huskies head into the final week of the regular season on a three-game winning streak, bringing their record to 16-9-1. They'll finish the season on the road with a pair of games against Moncton on Friday and St. Thomas on Saturday.
