Gabriel, Hansen named Huskies Athletes of the Week: Jan. 8-14, 2024

Men's basketball guard Marc-Denault Gabriel and women's hockey goaltender Ridleigh Hansen have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week ending January 14, 2024.

Marc-Denault Gabriel a third year guard from Montreal, QC is the Huskies male athlete of the week for the week of Jan. 8-14, 2024.

Gabriel helped lead the Huskies to their third straight win, defeating the UNB REDS 93-80 on Saturday night in Fredericton. Gabriel posted a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double, adding two assists and a steal.

For the season, Gabriel is averaging 15.0 points, 11.3 rebounds (second in the AUS), 2.2 assists and 2.1 steals (third in the AUS), in 33.8 minutes per game (third in the AUS).

Ridleigh Hansen, a second year goaltender from Red Deer, AB, is the Huskies female athlete of the week for the week of Jan. 8-14, 2024.

Hansen started in all three of the Huskies wins this week, allowing just four goals and turning away 86 shots for a .956 save percentage.

In Tuesday's 4-3 comeback win over the STFX X-Women, Hansen turned away 32 of 35 shots faced for the win, and also recorded an assist on Ashley Penney's second period goal.

In Saturday's 1-0 win over the St. Thomas Tommies, Hansen turned away all 29 shots she faced for her second shutout of the season.

In Sunday's 2-1 win over the UPEI Panthers, Hansen made 25 saves and was 24 seconds away from her second straight shutout until the Panthers scored with an extra-attacker.

On the season, Hansen leads the AUS in wins (10), and ranks fourth in save percentage (.927).
