Price fumble return propels Huskies to 13-5 win over Axemen

WOLFVILLE, NS - Huskies fullback Trent Price (Kamloops, BC) scored a game-sealing special teams touchdown, as Saint Mary's (1-1) defeated the Acadia Axemen (1-2) 13-5 in Wolfville on Friday night.

In a defensive battle, Saint Mary's led 6-5 late in regulation, when Price recovered a fumble off a Huskies punt and capitalized with the lone touchdown score of the game.

The Axemen took a 4-0 lead late in the first half after a field goal by Michael Adams, but Huskies kicker Ethan Nagler (Winnipeg, MB) hit a pair of field goals to put the visitors ahead 6-4.

After an Adams rouge brought Acadia within a point, a Cameron Brown (Hammonds Plains, NS) punt was fumbled by the Axemen returner and picked up by Price, who marched 11 yards into the end zone to put the Huskies ahead 13-5, which would be the final score.

Huskies quarterback Zac Montgomery (Indianapolis, IN) completed 8/13 passes for 69 yards, and added 36 yards rushing, while Michael Petroschke (Brampton, ON) completed 4/8 passes for 75 yards, including a game-long 39-yard connection with receiver Brycen Mayoh (Port Coquitlam, BC).

Axemen quarterback Dante Tabacu was 20-for-41 for the Axemen with 194 yards, while receiver Luke McMillan had a game-high 81 receiving yards, averaging 13.5 yards for Acadia.

The Huskies offence was balanced with Mayoh's 47 yards leading the way for Saint Mary's. Liam Stewart (Port Coquitlam, BC) and Trydell Mintis (Halifax, NS) hauled in 34 and 31 yards in the air respectively.

On the ground Max Ramirez had a game-high 54 yards for the Axemen, while Montgomery led Saint Mary's with 36.

Huskies linebacker Jacob Morgan (Halifax, NS) was a standout on the defensive side with a game-high 11 tackles, including one sack.

Acadia will now travel to Bishop's (1-1) for their Week 4 matchup, while the Huskies will host Mount Allison (0-1) on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. for their home-opener. GET TICKETS
