Pair of corner kick goals leads CIS No. 7 ranked UNB 2-0 over SMU
(Halifax, NS)--An Alex O'Brien goal in the 43rd minute proved the game-winner as the UNB Varsity Reds defeated the SMU Huskies 2-0 in AUS men's soccer action Saturday afternoon.
Off a corner kick deflection, the ball found a wide-open O'Brien and the Charlottetown, PEI native made no mistake in burying his first goal of the year for a 1-0 UNB lead.
For his efforts O'Brien was named Player of the Match.
Max Vitrotti (Fredericton, NB) added an insurance marker in the 64th minute on a set-play off a corner kick.
A charging Vitrotti connected on a corner kick from Kalen Park (Calgary, AB) and tapped in his first goal of the year.
Kristian D'Amore (Mississauga, ON) improves to 3-0-4 for UNB.
SMU goalie Christian Oxner (Halifax, NS) made seven saves and falls to 0-4-2 .
Up next for UNB (3-0-4 13 points) is the CBU Capers (5-1-1 16pts) at home while SMU (0-4-2 2pts) travels to the Memorial Sea-Hawks (1-3-2 5pts).
Both games are 3:15pm on Saturday October 15th.
