Moncton takes first game of Subway AUS semi-final series vs. Saint Mary's

(MONCTON, N.B.) – Catherine Dumas registered a hat trick to lead Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues to a 7-2 win over the Saint Mary's University Huskies in the first game of the best-of-three Subway AUS semi-final series, played on Monday evening at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The second game of the series will be held Thursday, in Halifax.

Marika Lacroix (from Marie-Pier Arsenault and Manon Lamarre) and Amélie Dion (from Catherine Dumas and M.-P. Arsenault) gave the home team a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period. The Huskies' Brianna Soper replied for the visitors.

Catherine Dumas potted two goals in the second period. Assists on the first goal came from Lacroix and Lamarre. Dion and Jodie Dupéré notched the assists on the other. The score was 4-1 at the end of the second period.

Dumas (unassisted) scored her third goal at the beginning of the third to complete her hat trick.

Manon Lamarre (from Marie-Pier Arsenault) and Amélie Dion (from Véronic Thibeault and Natacha Bergeron) completed the scoring in the third.

Janelle Rogers notched the Huskies second goal in the third, but it would not be enough for the visitors to mount a comeback.

Gabrielle Forget had 22 shots in net for Moncton. Justine McIntosh and Rebecca Weagle faced a combined 28 shots in net for the Huskies.

"Even with a high score, the game was not handed over to us," said Moncton coach Denis Ross. "The game was hotly contested. It was not easy. We were able to take advantage of our chances to score. We used our speed to surprise them. We started slowly, but we got going as the game progressed. The Thursday evening game will be very important."
